Day Dreaming Magazine

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

I was thrilled when Paola from Day Dreaming Magazine asked if they could feature some of my oil paintings in their april issue. Day Dreaming Magazine is an arts and culture organization based in Italy, bringing together work from artists globally through the internet. Its a beautiful website showcasing some provocative and outstanding works by a variety of artists.

check out April’s issue: Women in Art
featuring five international artists exploring different body shapes with images with different styles.

Kirsty Mitchell (UK)
Fashion designer passionately fond of photography. In her works can be felt the urge af a constant poetic experimentation, entwining expressions and states of the portrayed bodies, caught in suspended places between dream and reality, made magic by the brilliant weave and composition.

Helena Mirosedina (Ukraine)
her two series “Metamorphosis abduction Europe” and “Mental Constructions” are
reinterpreting both the roots of western myth (abduction Europe) and the modern disquietude with mock-erotic humour.

Patricia Anders (U.S.A.)
a gifted paintress whose catty creatures strike with grace and with a sensuous anxiety emerging from their recomposed bodies, apparently reinvented in the bowels of a secret lab and nevertheless filled with ironic truthfullness.

Katia Chausheva (Bulgaria)
whose photgraphy investigates the intimacy with curious glances, depicts the nakedness of feelings and the frailty of the female body, here with cinematic stills and there with pictorial compositions.

Chiara Perini (Italy)
an italian artist who moved to London some years ago; she brings forth oil paintings and crayon drawings portraying bodies and faces of unexpected childlike women wrong-footing the beholder.

Paper Dolls

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Mr and Mrs Duck were back in the pool again this morning, the fourth day in a row. Must be some juicy bugs in there.

I’ve started working on paper dolls, in between Barbie dolls, cuz I love dolls, of all kind.

I adore the collage work of artist Karenann Young. She is such a thoughtful and inspiring friend, surprising me when I least expect it, good mail…

This is a wonderful small zine of her work that came in the mail yesterday, its quaint and precious, made with care and thought, well crafted, as is everything she arts up.

We had unexpected visitors yesterday.

Occasionally people will send a photo of one of my work in their home. This is such a thrill to me. Seeing art work displayed with tender care makes being an artist so exciting and worthwhile.

I particularly like the way that this print of my original painting “Magic” is displayed in the perfect spot in this home. The floral decor on the wall above the framed image is a perfect touch, mimicking the floating magical orbs in the image.

Thanks Michelle!!
