First Friday/ Treasure Hunt

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

I left home about 4:00 yesterday from a chilly and rainy Calabasas, through the canyon and on to Pacific Coast Highway which was congested due to all the beach bums, the sand fans, the walkers, the swimmers, the bathing beauties, the surfers and even a horse back rider taking advantage of the perfect weather there. Made my way to the gallery and parked and proceeded to distribute the treasure hunt eggs up and down abott kinney Blvd. I am so not slick that it was stressful for me and given that the street is a main thoroughfare there are always many people and vehicles buzzing through. So I walked through the Blvd, my fabric satchel full of those colorful plastic “Easter” eggs and inside little coupons for free gifties in the gallery, I tried to be sly pulling them out one by one and ditching them into gravely corners and planters and cubbies and window sills without any person catching on. It went well, by a quarter of six the first person finding one returned it to the gallery for her prize and was as thrilled as can be.

It was a steady stream of people before even the start time and by nine o’clock when I left the street was full on a buzz with cars and people, wow, one of the busiest of First Fridays ever! Our little tiny gallery was chock full. Right about then the people from Time Warner came by to film our “popular” gallery and interview various random people along with one of us Ten Women Representatives. Not me. But I did speak with one of them at length and they shot my section of work. 😀 So it will air around mid July on CNN Headline news a 1.5 min piece throughout the day and a three min piece at sometime. It will also run locally.

Limo rounding the corner. someone with money, maybe they will buy some art!

First Fridays!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Our gallery member Renee Troy has created a beautiful window for tomorrow’s First Friday on Abott Kinney Blvd. We will serve up refreshments so come on out and join us if you are in the area. I am putting on a Treasure hunt as well, I will fill plastic eggs with a variety of goodies, discounts, cards, small giftees, prints, and art work are all going to be ready to be found somewhere on Abott Kinney Blvd, bring your egg in and redeem for something, hopefully you won’t find any rotten eggs but there will be a few just to throw you off track!
