Life is good!

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

My friend Mari-Pat likes to end her blog posts with a positive affirmation “Life is good!” So naturally when I saw this vehicle in the parking lot of Home Depot I snapped a quick pic. I do believe most often our days are determined by the way we face our challenges before we even step out the door. Being grateful to just be alive and value the day already makes it easier to deal with whatever occurs. Whenever I read her posts, I am reminded that today is indeed a gift to appreciate.

I was Mz Cranky pants yesterday, I plan to do better today.
*edit, eek, this does sound Pollyanna. :b

Rosebud the Emu

Friday, May 25th, 2012

Residing a short distance down the street from us, “Rosebud” haha isn’t she a lovely Emu! The owners had her since she was an Egg! Rosebud has a blue iridescent stripe on either side of her head and is very tall and likes to stand at that corner of the property to watch people all day long 😀 She scares me a leetle cuz she is snappy! I have also heard that there is a Peacock near by, I can not wait to get a glimpse of him!

There will be art!

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

There will be art. Soon. We are wrapping up the transition from one humble abode to another more humbler abode by the end of the month. Tenants will be in place and I will be free to pursue my painting and creating mania as per usual. Walks through the hood and photo documentation of life’s affirmations will continue as well.

For now, here is my dear Sassy, choosing garbage bag over carpet.

I go out walking

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

From yesterday’s walk around the hood, flowers.

And the sweetest goat ever.

He turns a wary eye, as if to say, who are you?

Later on during the course of the walk, a very thin cat befriended me, hugging my legs round and round and I just knew if he/she followed me I would have to adopt. I do think when animals find a person, they are meant to be in the family. The hub did not agree LOL!! Luckily the sweetie cat did not follow me, I really need no more pets at the moment. Although, there is a baby bunny inhabiting the weedy grass in the front yard. The CuTeSt little, not very skittish cotton tail. We have seen him the past couple of days, close enough to the front picture window to watch him eat. I do have a fondness for bunnies of any kind, yes I know they eat up all the greenery. :b

Gendered Object:Barbie as Art at Ann Street Gallery

Saturday, May 19th, 2012

Tonight is the opening reception for Barbie as art at Ann Street Gallery in NYC; “The Ann Street Gallery is delighted to present its newest exhibition Gendered Object: Barbie as Art, with an Artist Reception on Saturday, May 19 from 6 – 9 pm. This event is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

It seems the entire world knows who Barbie is, and in Gendered Object: Barbie as Art, a group of contemporary artists embrace this plastic beauty, whose iconic pop culture image exerts a powerful influence on artistic and visual culture alike. Mass-produced objects like dolls can tell us much about the creation and significance of self-image in the context of group identities. Since the 1960′s and the advent of the “consumer society” playing with gender identity through styling and fashion has moved from the margins to occupy a more mainstream position. This has since been expressed in popular culture through an interest in androgyny, breaking conventional gender dress codes, gender bending and body reconstruction. Read more here

I have contributed about eight dolls, this is one of them in the exhibit:

Arbolada, “The Hood”

Friday, May 18th, 2012

I did a three mile walk yesterday (a record for me!) through the hood, (“Arbolada”) and enjoyed it immensely although my feet and legs were complaining, LOUD :b

One of the things I saw on the walk as we passed the Cemetery was this nest sitting on the ledge of the wall bordering the gravestones

I am curious to know what is in that pouch! I left it untouched as I sensed it would be bad karma to mess with it!

Also en route we passed a house with this in front!

Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 13th, 2012

Happy Mother’s day to any mommas reading this blog! Hope your day is lovely and you are honored as you should be!

This little plate was given to me by my mom when my son was a wee little one. Those years go by fast.

My boy is now a grown man, it hardly seems real.

Wish I could see my mom today.
